It was very cold last evening when we took the dogs for their nightly walk and today, in the early morning light, I could see that the first heavy frost had covered everything in a blanket of fine ice crystals.
A few of my groundcover roses, like this pink Fairy, persist despite the cold.
Two weeks ago, my hydrangeas were still a pale pink in the afternoon light. Now the dry, brittle petals are as brown as a paper bag.
Still I find beauty in the garden, even on a cold, early morning.
